| “The
best songs don’t come when we seek to write them,
but when they come upon us so strong that they can’t
help but be written.”
- Elisabeth Burns
Born into a family immersed in both ministry and music,
it is no wonder that Elisabeth Burns also began a journey
in both venues at an early age. What seemed like an obvious
choice of path, however, would soon take on unexpected twists
and turns that would shape Elisabeth’s ideas about
life, ministry, music, and even God himself. Elisabeth began
singing professionally at the age of 15 and was soon hired
to sing at theme parks such as Disney’s MGM Studios,
Disney’s Animal Kingdom, and Universal Studios Orlando.
Elisabeth continued singing while pursuing her degree in
Church Music from Southeastern University, where she graduated
with her Bachelor’s degree in 2003. While at SEU,
Elisabeth was a part of the R&B hip-hop group XYC with
whom she recorded their debut album, “Living Room.”
During her time with XYC, Elisabeth opened for artists such
as Grits and Geoff Moore.
It wasn't until the summer of 2005, however, that the
largest inspiration for Elisabeth's music would surface
from a very unexpected event. Diagnosed with Stage 2, Non-Hodgkins
Lymphoma, Elisabeth had to endure six grueling months of
chemotherapy, all the while keeping journals of the experiences
that would become her debut solo album, "True Story."
Since being healed of cancer, Elisabeth has been traveling
across the US sharing her message of hope in both story
and song. |
